The article analyzes concepts of the socio-economic development of Guinea in the period 1958-1978. It presented the country a economic situation during a twenty-year period of its independence. Guinea is usually ranked among the least developed countries in the world. Like all the other countries in this group it encounters considerable financial. organizational, and manpower difficulties, which hamper implementation of strategic assumptions of the socio-economic development, and consequently limit the effects of the accepted concepts of development. In the development policy pursued over the past twenty years, there could be distinguished three concepts of development. The strategy for the period 1958-1978 envisaged harmonious development of all sectors of the national economy. The strategy implemented between 1964 and 1971 gave a priority to the country a industrialization, while that for the years 1972-1977 assumed basing of the country’s development on agriculture.
