The article deals with analysis of the attitude to work as a basic category in sociology of work. The socialist attitude to work is expressed through: sense of responsibility and duty in relation to implemented economic tasks; socialist structure of work motivation; active participation in different forms of social-voluntary work in the place of work; collectivity; continuous striving for improvement of one’s own education and qualifications. The results of researches performed in 1967 and 1977 allowed to state that attitudes and behaviours of workers in relation to their work correspond, already to a large extent, to objective character of work and bear typically socialist traits. In the researches in question there were determined three groups of factors exerting an influence on promotion of the socialist attitude to work: 1. Factors related to personality — from among them of basic significance was political involvement of examined workers and performance of volunteer- -unpaid functions in the work establishment as well as the level of professional qualifications. 2. Factors related to work environment — from among them the most important one is the real level of development of socialist democracy in the work establishment, next comes the manager’s personality and style of managing as well as mutual relations between people — members of one collective body. 3. Factors concerning work contents and from among them the most important appeared to be: interesting work, diversified, responsible and requiring high qualifications work.
