As a result of the 1st partition of Poland (1772) about one milion of Catholics found themselves within the borders of the Russian Empire. The aim of the article is to show content and structure of the notations in the original metrical certificates of the Roman-Catholic Church in Vilnius Diocese (Bialystok, Grodno and Sokolka Dekanats) in the period of the Russian rule. These certificates were provided in Polish language from 1827 (before this year – in Latin), and from 1848/1849 – in Russian. Our observation shoved that not significant differencies in content and structure of metrical certificates because of the control of the Roman-Catholic Church of the process their creation.
