The Polish Armed Forces are one of the pillars of security of the country. Currently, Poland, as a Member State of both NATO and the European Union, might be required to engage soldiers in defence against a military threat. The primary role of the armed forces is to perform actions aimed at the preservation of security, but also to prevent potentially menacing situations, both home and abroad. All activities must comply with the strategy of the North Atlantic Treaty. The development of civilization, technological progress, as well as the progressive globalisation of the contemporary world all lead to changes in the scale and nature of threats. The aim of the article is the analysis of the participation of the Polish Armed Forces in NATO and in the whole system of the European Union. The author tries to recommend the changes which should be implemented in order to improve the system with regards to the scope of the use of armed forces in crisis situations.

Polskie siły zbrojne są jednym z filarów bezpieczeństwa kraju. Obecnie Polska, jako państwo członkowskie zarówno NATO, jak i Unii Europejskiej, może być zobowiązana do zaangażowania żołnierzy w obronę przed zagrożeniem militarnym. Głównym zadaniem sił zbrojnych jest wykonywanie czynności w celu utrzymania bezpieczeństwa, ale również pomoc w zapobieganiu sytuacjom, które mogą być uznane za niebezpieczne, zarówno w kraju, jak i poza nim. Wszystkie działania muszą być zgodne ze strategią Paktu Północnoatlantyckiego. Rozwój cywilizacji, postęp techniczny, a także postępująca globalizacja współczesnego świata prowadzi do zmian w skali i charakterze zagrożeń. Celem artykułu jest analiza udziału Sił Zbrojnych RP w NATO oraz w całym systemie Unii Europejskiej. Auror stara się zasugerować, jakich dokonać zmian, aby poprawić system w zakresie wykorzystania sił zbrojnych w sytuacjach noszących znamiona kryzysu.
