The President of Poland, Ignacy Mościcki, visited Grudziądz twice during his tenure. Both visits took place in radically different political realities. The first visit occurred on August 2, 1927, more than a year after the May Coup, during which the Head of State also visited several more important towns in Pomerania. However, despite the solemn overtones of the vent being maintained by the city authorities, we can infer that this visit, which consisted largely of a tour of Grudziadz’s largest factories, passed with little notice in the local society. A much more momentous and probably the most important visit by the President of the Republic during the interwar period, took place on October 15, 1936. The occasion was honored by the president in person, with a celebration of the fifteenth anniversary of the Cavalry Training Center, combined with the promotion of the next year of the Cavalry Cadet School. A momentous event of the day was also the parade of military units in front of the President of the Republic of Poland and the generals at Piłsudskiego Street, as well as paying tribute by the president of the city, Józef Włodek and invited delegations into the Town Hall. The importance of this event was demonstrated by the fact that most likely for the first time in Grudziądz, there was a report from the ceremony on the radio, and the PAT film crew prepared a short film, screened in cinemas throughout Poland. The second part of the program had a purely military character, including a meeting with CTC students in the city theater, lunch at the horse riding arena on the CTC barracks grounds and cavalry demonstrations. However, President Mościcki did not participate in the last point of the program due to heavy rain. All newspapers in Poland wrote about celebrations in the city on the Vistula, making the place famous as the capital of Polish cavalry.
