The Capuchin monastery in Rywałd became a scenery of an extremely difficult time for Primate Stefan Wyszyński, namely his imprisonment. On Friday, September 25, 1953, around 10.30 p.m., the Primate heard knocking at the gate of the archbishop’s house at ul. Miodowa in Warsaw. By an unlawful decision of the government of 24 September, the Primate was suspended as archbishop and it was decided to remove him from Warsaw. Shortly after midnight, i.e. on September 26, the Primate was taken away from his seat and in the early morning he was in Rywałd. He stayed here until October 12. A unique source, which brings us to the first period of imprisonment of the Primate, are his “Prison Notes”. This article refers to another interesting and probably unused source, namely entries in the monastery chronicle kept by the Capuchins in Rywałd. Because we do not have many sources for these dozen or so days of seclusion, the Capuchin notes have special value for us.
