Celem artykułu jest refleksja nad stanem rozwoju turystyki na Półwyspie Helskim w pierwszych dekadach obecnego stulecia. Półwysep Helski zaliczany jest do największych atrakcji turystycznych Polski jako wyjątkowy ekosystem, łączący walory przyrodnicze, krajobrazowe, klimatyczne oraz historyczne. Ogromna atrakcyjność obszaru przyciąga w sezonie letnim znaczną liczbę turystów uprawiających rozmaite formy turystyki i rekreacji, poczynając od wypoczynkowej i tematycznej, na turystyce kwalifikowanej i ekstremalnej kończąc. Niekontrolowany napływ turystów i inwestycje lokalnej ludności w bazę noclegową powodują jednak zagrożenie ekologiczne i przeciążenie chłonności turystycznej tej części Nadmorskiego Parku Krajobrazowego. Inicjatywy środowisk ekologów wyłączania wstępu na część terenów nadmorskich mają z kolei charakter projektów utopijnych, radykalnych i oderwanych od realiów społecznych. Największym zagrożeniem walorów turystycznych półwyspu są wszakże plany inwestycji budowlanych, często zupełnie zbędne, mogące zniszczyć krajobraz w sposób nieodwracalny.

The goal of the paper is to reflect on the state of the development of tourism on the Hel Peninsula in the first decades of this century. The Hel Peninsula is one of the biggest tourist attractions in Poland and a unique ecosystem that combines natural, landscape, climatic and historical values. The huge attractiveness of the area attracts a significant number of tourists in the summer season who indulge in various forms of tourism and recreation, ranging from leisure, thematic to qualified and extreme tourism. The uncontrolled inflow of tourists and investments of the local population in the accommodation base, however, cause an ecological threat and overload of tourist absorption of this part of the Seaside Landscape Park. Initiatives of environmentalists to exclude admission to some coastal areas, in turn, have the character of utopian projects, radical and detached from social realities. However, the greatest threat to the tourist attractions of the peninsula are the construction investment plans that are often unnecessary and pose the threat of destroying the local landscape irreversibly.
