The term “weapons of mass destruction” (WMD) has no unified meaning in international relations. The paper presents different ways of defining WMD and focuses on US literature and legislation. The author analyses WMD definitions in terms of their adequacy, unambiguity and accuracy.

Termin „broń masowego rażenia” nie posiada w stosunkach międzynarodowych ujednoliconego znaczenia. Artykuł prezentuje rozmaite sposoby definiowania tego terminu, przede wszystkim koncentrując się na piśmiennictwie oraz prawodawstwie amerykańskim. Autor dokonuje analizy poszczególnych definicji z punktu widzenia ich adekwatności, jednoznaczności i precyzji.
