In 1920 Grudziądz together with the whole Pomerania was incorporated into the independent Polish State. Polish culture, including musical life, could develop freely from then on. The Stanisław Moniuszko Music Society which operated in Grudziądz initiated the establishment of the symphony orchestra as well as the creation of the Forest Opera in Grudziądz, which operated for two seasons. The largest venture undertaken by the Society was to run a school – the Music Institute. There were military orchestras in Grudziadz; the most active were the orchestra of the 64th Infantry Regiment and the orchestra of the 18th Uhlan Regiment. There were also youth orchestras and a railway orchestra. The Grudziądz choirs, Lutnia, Echo and Moniuszko, belonged to the Pomeranian Association of Singing Circles. Grudziądz together with Chełmno and Świecie formed the Second District of this Association. There were also church choirs: the Church Choir at the parish church and the Church Singing Society „Dzwon” (Bell). The organization called the Railway Military Training organized its own men’s choir, „Sygnał”. The choirs, like the orchestras, performed at concerts in Grudziądz and other towns, staged theatre performances, celebrated state and church ceremonies, as well as ceremonies organized by various organizations, performed in the theatre and organized Song Days. The repertoire was dominated by works by Polish composers. Grudziądz ensembles performed in the Pomeranian Polish Radio station opened in 1935. In the theatre in Grudziadz the audience had the opportunity to watch musical performances – operas and operettas. The Grudziadz theatre group performed in other cities of Pomerania. A music magazine – Muzyk Wojskowy – founded and edited by the conductor Eugeniusz Dawidowicz was issued in Grudziądz. Grudziądz was also a venue of performances of other artists, from outside Pomerania. Concerts were held thanks to various organizations. The Grudziądz audience could listen to performances by, among others, singer Ada Sari, violinist Irena Dubiska and pianist Aleksander Michałowski. There were organized lectures devoted to music. Music life developed thanks to many committed people, professional musicians and amateurs, whose passion made musical events take place despite difficulties.
