The archival collections of the Władysław Łęga Museum in Grudziądz keeps the chronicle of the Primary School no. 4 on 19/20 Skłodowska street. In 1995, its premises were handed over to the School of Gastronomy and Clothing (currently the School of Gastronomy and Hotel Industry). The article analyses the entries of the Chronicle referring to the years 1921–1926. The research goal was to indicate from when and in what way the regaining of independence by Poland, as well as the joining of Grudziądz to the reborn Polish state, were recorded in the Chronicle. In the light of the source under study it is clearly shown that in the first years, from 1921, the school celebrated the date of January 23rd, 1920, which was the day when the Polish army entered Grudziądz. Over the years, the Chronicle ceased to mention this event, although it does not necessarily mean that the day was forgotten in the school. At the same time, we note that from 1926, the day of the 11th November began to be solemnly celebrated at school, as the day of Poland regaining its independence.
