After the first partition of Poland in 1772 and the incorporation of Royal Prussia into the borders of the Kingdom of Prussia, new military units were established. One of them was the 54 Infantry Regiment, based in Grudziądz. The canton in which recruitment to this Regiment took place included Grudziądz and nearby towns. Albrecht Erenreich von Rohr became the first commander of the new unit. The next commanders of the Regiment were: Karl Kuno Ludwig von Klitzing, Bogislav Ernst von Bonin, Christian Friedrich von Mosch and Hans Chistoph von Natzmer. The Regiment adopted crimson colors, amended later. The formation took part in most of the military operations conducted by the Prussian Kingdom in 1773–1807. Among the most important, there were the war for Bavarian succession, the campaign against the Kościuszko Uprising and the campaign against Napoleon in 1806/07. This last campaign has become an event closing the history of the formation. The unit was destroyed during the battles of Lübeck and Grudziądz, and its survivors were included in 1807 to the Königs Grenadier Regiment (2. Westpreuβisches) No. 7. There was no attempt to restore the 54 Infantry Regiment later.
