Edmund Burke (1730–1797), już za swojego życia był jedną z najbardziej kontrowersyjnych i wpływowych pod względem intelektualnym postaci na brytyjskiej scenie politycznej. Po śmierci spory o charakter jego poglądów, które określano jako „konserwatywne”, „liberalne” bądź wprowadzano podział na „wczesnego, liberalnego Burke’a” i „późnego, konserwatywnego Burke’a”, przyciągały uwagę wielu polityków i badaczy. Także na początku XXI w. idee Burke’a budzą szerokie zainteresowanie, co wskazuje na ich znaczenie, ale też na trudności z ich interpretacją. Already during his life, Edmund Burke (1730–1797) was one of the most controversial and intellectually influential persons on the British political scene. After his death, disputes over the character of his views and opinions, described as “conservative” or “liberal”, or divided into the “early liberal Burke” or “late conservative Burke”, attracted attention of many politicians and scholars. At the beginning of the twenty-first century, too, they spark widespread interest, which indicate their importance, but also troubles with their interpretation.
