W artykule omówiono etymologię kilku jidyszyzmów występujących w polskim socjolekcie przestępczym od dziewiętnastego wieku do dwudziestolecia międzywojennego. Autor tekstu odniósł się do jednostek słownikowych notowanych w najstarszych opracowaniach poświęconych żargonowi, przy czym z uwagi na ograniczenia wydawnicze opis zawęził do nazw funkcjonariuszy policji i strażników więziennych: bałmelchume, musor, meszures, chatrak, tatajłemnyk. Obecnie słowa te nie funkcjonują w socjolekcie przestępczym; artykuł uzupełnia więc lukę w badaniach nad historią słownictwa żargonowego.

The author discussed the etymology of few Yiddishisms – the words used in Polish criminal jargon, from the 19th century until the interwar period. In this text the author presented the lexemes listed in the oldest Polish sociolectical dictionaries, e.g.: bałmelchume, musor, meszures, chatrak, tatajłemnyk (the publishing rules forced the author to limit the description – he dealt with the names of police officers and prison guards). Mainly presented words did not survive, today they are not appearing in non-standard dialect. This article filled the gap in the research on the origins of some jargon words.
