Artykuł zawiera podstawowe ustalenia dotyczące rozwoju motoryzacji w Polsce w latach 1945–1989. Problemy w nim poruszone zostały przedstawione w porządku chronologicznym ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem kwestii związanych z polityką państwa wobec posiadaczy samochodów, obrotem pojazdami, ich dostępnością czy infrastrukturą motoryzacyjną. Podstawą źródłową były archiwalia wytworzone przez instytucje centralne, istniejąca literatura przedmiotu oraz prasa, zarówno codzienna, jak i specjalistyczna (motoryzacyjna).

The article presents basic findings about the development of the automotive industry in Poland in 1945–1989. The problems raised in the study are presented in chronological order, with particular regard to issues related to the state policy towards car owners, trade in vehicles, their availability, and automotive infrastructure. The source basis are archival documents produced by central institutions, existing literature on the subject and the press, both daily and specialist (automotive) papers.
