Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie głównych koncepcji przestrze-ni, jakie wypracowano od starożytnej filozofii przyrody po fizykę współczesną. Omówione zostały: koncepcja przestrzeni jako próż-ni, koncepcje negujące istnienie pustej przestrzeni, spór między absolutystyczną a relacjonistyczną koncepcją przestrzeni, prze-strzeń jako aprioryczna forma zmysłowości oraz czasoprzestrzeń szczególnej i ogólnej teorii względności. Przeanalizowane zostało zagadnienie relacji między geometrią a własnościami fizycznej przestrzeni.

The objective of the present article is to outline the main conceptions of space worked out since the times of the ancient philosophy of nature till the times of modern physics. The issues thus discussed include the notion of space as void, the ideas that question the concept of empty space, the controversy between the absolutist and relationist conceptions of space, space conceived of as an a priori form of sensibility, as well as the spacetime of particular and general relativity. Additionally, the issue of the relation obtaining between geometry and the qualities of physical space has been analyzed. Translated by Dorota Chabrajska
