The aim of the article is to present changes in music selection in radio stations last years. In the early nineties (of XX century) – when commercial radio stations appeared in Poland – music for radio programmes was chosen by journalists and presenters. There were many special programmes with different kinds of music, for example with rock, pop, jazz. Turn of the century – that was a time when many radio stations began a process of changes in this area. It was called “music format”. Radio listeners’ target groups was chosen and defined. Each target group needs its own kind of music – dependent on taste in music, age, background. Radio stations define their music format and use special computer software to select music for their target listeners.
