Authoritarian views and attitudes towards democracy: the case of Polish students

In his article, the author presents the problem of legitimacy crisis of contemporary democracy. Empirical data show, that citizens of different consolidated democracies are becoming more and more cynical towards a value of democratic political system. It turns out that this problem is related to younger generations of citizens. The author wants to answer the question: how do young people (students) perceive and evaluate the political system in Poland? He probes into the wider social context of democratic legitimacy. Therefore, he analyzes the relationship between students’ preferences in scope of forms of government and their views measured on the scale of authoritarian/democratic attitudes.

W niniejszym artykule autor przedstawia problem kryzysu legitymizacyjnego współczesnej demokracji. Dane empiryczne wskazują, że obywatele wielu skonsolidowanych demokracji stają się dzisiaj coraz bardziej nieufni (cyniczni) wobec wartości, jaką jest demokratyczny system polityczny. Okazuje się, że problem ten dotyczy dzisiaj młodszych pokoleń obywateli. Autor próbuje odpowiedzieć na pytanie o to, jak młodzi ludzie (studenci) postrzegają i oceniają system polityczny w Polsce, także stara się przedstawić szerszy społeczny kontekst legitymizacji demokracji. Dlatego też analizuje związek pomiędzy preferowanym modelem władzy a poglądami na skali przekonań autorytarnych/demokratycznych.
