The article presents the changes that had taken place in the structure of post war education system using as an example Tomaszów region. It explains the way in which the communist's slogan "We fight illiteracy” was used to gain support for the new ruting party. Deliberately chosen educational texts were gloryfying USSR and condemning the pre-war Poland. The article presents also difficulties that regional authorities had with putting government instructions into practice. All the work undertaken was aimed on aksjological desorientation and frustration of the society.
