This article attempts to organize the state of knowledge about the number of Polish parishes in the United States. It presents individual lists of parishes created since the beginning of the 20th century, research difficulties, and analyzes their content. The lists authored by Rev. Waclaw Kruszka, Rev. Franciszek Niklewicz, Rev. Antoni Maksymik, Rev. Zdzisław Peszkowski, and Rev. Stanislaw Flis and an anonymous priest are analyzed, taking into account differences that appear in them. Despite many attempts to count Polish parishes in the U.S., it has not been possible to determine their number. This article presents reasons for this situation and thoughts on establishing the criteria for counting parishes.
