W artykule analizowany jest problem uzasadnienia w etyce Emmanuela Lévinasa. Autorka formułuje tezę, że według Lévinasa podawanie racji przemawiających za dobrym postępowaniem jest bezcelowe ze względu na pozaintelektualny charakter relacji etycznej. To właśnie rozum, z jego tendencjami do totalizacji, jest czynnikiem sankcjonującym przemoc. Człowiek musi ujrzeć nieredukowalną odmienność drugiego człowieka, by móc wejść z nim w relację metafizyczną. Jest to niemożliwe przy użyciu rozumu, gdyż natura tej relacji jest pozaintelektualna. Autorka wskazuje również powody, ze względu na które rozum nie jest koniecznym elementem ufundowania etyki. Pokazuje także problemy, do których prowadzi próba uzasadniania moralności za pomocą racji intelektualnych.

Im Artikel wird das Problem der Begründung in der Ethik von Emmanuel Lévinas untersucht. Die Autorin formuliert die These, dass es laut Lévinas zwecklos ist, Gründe für gutes Verhalten anzugeben wegen des außerintellektuellen Charakters der ethischen Relation. Gerade die Vernunft mit ihrer Neigung zur Totalisierung ist jener Faktor, der die Gewalt sanktioniert. Der Mensch muss eine unreduzierbare Verschiedenheit des anderen Menschen einsehen, um mit ihm eine metaphysische Relation einzugehen. Es ist nicht möglich, wenn man die Vernunft anwendet, denn die Natur dieser Relation ist außerintellektuell. Die Autorin weist ebenfalls auf die Ursachen hin, aufgrund derer die Vernunft nicht für die Begründung der Ethik notwendig ist. Sie zeigt auch Probleme, die bei dem Versuch entstehen, die Moral mit Hilfe intellektueller Argumente zu begründen.

The article concerns the problem of justification in ethics by Emmanuel Lévinas. According to its thesis, stating the reasons for good deeds is pointless, due to the nonintellectual nature of an ethical relationship. To the French thinker, the mind (with its tendency towards totalisation) legitimises violence. A human should see the irreducible otherness of the other person to be able to start a metaphysical relationship with her/him. This is impossible by using reason. The nature of this relation is defies intellectual reasoning. The present paper attempts to show why the reason does not constitute the necessary element of the foundation of ethics. It also analyses problems which attempting to justify morality by means of intellectual justification leads to.
