W artykule została przedstawiona biografia Charlesa Vane’a, angielskiego pirata żyjącego na przełomie XVII i XVIII w. Opisano m.in. jego barwne przygody na niespokojnych karaibskich wodach. Dla lepszego zrozumienia czasów i realiów, w jakich żył wspomniany bohater, czytelnikom przybliżono również ówczesną sytuację polityczną na Antylach oraz specyfikę karaibskiego piractwa

The article presents a biography of Charles Vane, an English pirate who lived at the turn of the 17th and 18th century. It mainly describes his adventures on the troubled waters of the Caribbean Sea. Yet, for a better understanding of the very times and the reality in which he lived, a political situation in the Antilles in the period stated and the specificity of the Caribbean piracy is explained there, too.
