The second half of the 20lh C witnessed a dynamic development of tourism. Western European countries are, next to the United States, leaders of international tourism and have the best-developed system of integrated hotel chains. The article provides information about those West European hotel chains operating at the turn of the 21st C, the number of integrated chains, the number of hotels, their capacity, standard, influence, location and national status, and their role in the world hotel industry.

W drugiej połowie XX w. nastąpił silny rozwój ruchu turystycznego. Przodujące miejsce w turystyce zagranicznej zajmują kraje zachodniej Europy. One też mają obok Stanów Zjednoczonych najlepiej w skali światowej rozwinięty system zintegrowanych łańcuchów hotelowych. Artykuł zawiera informację dotyczącą działających w Europie Zachodniej - na przełomie XX i XXI w. - grup łańcuchów hotelowych, ich znaczenia w hotelarstwie światowym, liczby zintegrowanych łańcuchów, liczby hoteli - ich wielkości, standardu, zasięgu, lokalizacji, przynależności do poszczególnych krajów.
