The article concerns disorders in coherence of expression which results from the non-compliance with the rules of connotation in the language by people suffering from schizophrenia. The author presents the theory of connotation, by explaining the meaning of the concept and its profile in the study of language disorders in schizophrenia. The empirical part of the article presents examples of schizophatic statements, which presents the connotation’s disturbances at various levels of syntactic complexity. The author distinguishes two fundamental causes of connotation’s disturbances in schizophasia, which are the use of a word that occurs in a language in a different sense than it is commonly used (neosemantism) and the use of a word that is a new creation, which do not results from the word-formation’s processes in the language (idiolectal neologism).
