In this article there was described culture in Joseph Ratiznger’s understanding. This topic has not been dealt with in a wider context so far. The scientific achievements of the German theologian have great scientific description, especially from the theological and philosophical perspective. The main purpose of this article is to introduce the retired pope’s theory of culture. The core of the theory are the three most important subjects: man, community and the relationship between faith and reason. Additionally, the text presents a short characterization of the source of the crisis of culture called by Ratzinger cultural relativism, which also strongly influences in the three mentioned issues. This article is an analysis of Ratzinger’s most important works from a cultural studies perspective: Faith, truth, tolerance – Christianity and world religions, Introduction to Christianity and Europe Benedict in the crisis of cultures.

W artykule opisano zagadnienie kultury w ujęciu Josepha Ratzingera. Temat ten jak dotąd nie był poruszany w szerszym kontekście, chociaż dorobek naukowy niemieckiego teologa posiada bogate opracowanie (zwłaszcza z perspektywy teologiczno-filozoficznej. Głównym celem artykułu jest wprowadzenie do teorii kultury emerytowanego papieża. Przedstawiono trzy najważniejsze zagadnienia będące rdzeniem jego poglądów, jakimi są człowiek, wspólnota oraz relacja między wiarą a rozumem. Dodatkowo w tekście zaprezentowano krótkie przedstawienie źródła kryzysu kultury, czyli kulturowego relatywizmu, który również silnie oddziałuje na wspomniane trzy kwestie. Artykuł bazuje na analizie najważniejszych dzieł Ratzingera z perspektywy kulturoznawczej: Wiara, prawda, tolerancja – Chrześcijaństwo a religie świata, Wprowadzenie w chrześcijaństwo i Europa Benedykta w kryzysie kultur.
