The purpose of this article is to examine the tradition concerning Sarah’s death as described in Gen 23:1-2. The foundation for this is two pieces of information that give the biblical text a particularly important and interesting character. These are the age and place of death of Abraham’s wife. Both Christian and Jewish traditions present two traditions on this matter that complement each other. Although at first glance Genesis 23:1-2 does notstand out from the accompanying verses of the inspired text, intriguing insights and interesting conclusions can be reached upon deeper analysis.

Celem niniejszego artykułu jest przebadanie tradycji dotyczącej śmierci Sary, która została opisana w Rdz 23,1-2. Fundamentem są tu dwie informacje, które nadają tekstowi biblijnemu szczególnie ważnego i ciekawego charakteru. Mowa o wieku i miejscu śmierci żony Abrahama. Zarówno tradycja chrześcijańska jak i żydowska przedstawiają w tej materii dwa podejścia, które wzajemnie się uzupełniają. Choć na pierwszy rzut oka Rdz 23,1-2 nie wyróżnia się niczym od towarzyszących mu wersetów tekstu natchnionego to jednak po głębszej analizie można dojść do intrygujących spostrzeżeń i ciekawych wniosków.
