The subject of this work is the Rzeszow region with distinction of the Rzeszowiacy group, in its creations of folk culture, with a special emphasis on dance folklore. The aim of the article is primarily to try to show and approximate the basic, characteristic and at the same time the most important aspects, allowing to talk about the Rzeszow region, and further forward Rzeszowiacy, as a separate region, in terms of dance, costumes, music and rites. Folk culture experienced its greatest heyday in the 19th century. This was mainly related to the process of expropriation of peasants, in different areas of Polish lands under different partitions, which proceeded slightly differently. The turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries can be considered its peak moment, the interwar period – the end. Rzeszow's dance folklore is a very diverse and multifaceted phenomenon. Focusing only on the areas around Rzeszow, its immediate surroundings, on the one hand, allows to discuss it in a rather diligent way, but at the same time does not allow to show the most important differences (and often many common moments) that occur throughout Rzeszow - and it is such comparisons that can fully make the reader aware of the peculiarities of the region. The phenomenon of folk dance in Poland is quite complicated. Until the beginning of the 20th century, dance was treated as a utilitarian art, came out of the natural functioning of the village and became part of its everyday life. Until this period, there are only few special studies in the field of folk dance. After the Second World War, folk culture was considered an important trend of national tradition, as one of the important moments for the formation of the then culture. Various large-scale research has been undertaken on the historical process of its development, on the material and spiritual forms of its manifestation.

Przedmiotem niniejszej pracy jest region Rzeszowszczyzny z wyróżnieniem grupy Rzeszowiaków, w jej wytworach kultury ludowej, ze szczególnym naciskiem na folklor taneczny. Celem jest przede wszystkim próba ukazania i przybliżenia podstawowych, charakterystycznych, a zarazem najistotniejszych aspektów, pozwalających na mówienie o regionie Rzeszowszczyzny, a idąc dalej, samych Rzeszowiaków, jako odrębnym regionie, pod względem tańca, stroju, muzyki i obrzędów. Kultura ludowa okres swojego największego rozkwitu przeżywała w XIX wieku. Miało to związek przede wszystkim z procesem uwłaszczania chłopów, na poszczególnych terenach ziem polskich pod różnymi zaborami przebiegającym nieco odmiennie. Przełom wieków XIX i XX można uznać za jej moment szczytowy, okres międzywojenny - schyłkowy. Zjawisko tańca ludowego w Polsce jest dość skomplikowane. Do początku XX wieku taniec traktowany był jako sztuka użytkowa, wypływał z naturalnego funkcjonowania wsi i wpisywał się w jej codzienność. Do tego okresu niewiele jest specjalnych opracowań w dziedzinie tańca ludowego. Po II wojnie światowej kultura ludowa została uznana za ważny nurt tradycji narodowej, za jeden z istotnych czynników dla tworzenia się ówczesnej kultury. Zostały podjęte rozmaite, prowadzone na szeroką skalę badania nad historycznym procesem jej rozwoju, nad materialnymi i duchowymi formami jej przejawiania się.
