W artykule przedstawiono stan badań dotyczących zjawiska memu oraz memu internetowego w obszarze nauk o kulturze i religii, a także historii, językoznawstwa, literaturoznawstwa i kulturoznawstwa.  Przeanalizowano treść publikacji, by wskazać, w jaki sposób polscy badacze postrzegają pojęcie memu i memu internetowego oraz jakie cechy i funkcje im przypisują. Uwzględniono opracowania opublikowane w latach 2000–2019, na podstawie danych w katalogach NUKAT i Biblioteki Narodowej w Warszawie oraz wyszukiwarce naukowej Google Scholar.

The article provides the state-of-the-art of the research on the phenomenon of meme and of the Internet meme in the field of culture and religion, as well as history, linguistics, literary studies and cultural studies. The authors of the article have analysed the publications in order to show the way Polish researchers perceive the notion of the meme and the Internet meme, as well as the characteristics and functions they have been scribed to them. The authors took into account the research studies published in 2000–2019 based on the data from the NUKAT catalogues, National Library in Warsaw, and Google Scholar.
