The article deals with the issue of the relation between education, educational policy and the processes of the development of ethnic identity. Particular emphasis was placed on reconstructing educational practices and the language policy that is implemented toward minorities in the contexts of bilingual edu-cation. An attempt was made at examining the relationship between language policy, schooling, and development of ethnic identity of ethnic and cultural minorities, especially processes of assimilation and revitalization of languages.

Artykuł stanowi analizę wybranych koncepcji teoretycznych i rozwiązań praktycznych funkcjonowania edukacji dwujęzycznej. Pojęcie dwujęzyczności analizowane jest z perspektywy odmienności zastosowań edukacji bilingwalnej. Głównym punktem odniesienia są rozważania odnoszące się do polityki oświatowej państw względem mniejszości etnicznych i kulturowych - z perspektywy asymilacji i rewitalizacji ich języków.
