The article offers the synthesis of a contrastive research on Italian and Polish action verbs. A theoretical-interpretive framework for the proposed analyses is provided by a proposed typology of languages according to which, based on certain differences in lexical distribution observed in Romance and Germanic languages – in particular in Italian and Danish – can be described as either more or less endocentric or more or less exocentric. As it results from the study conducted according to both competence-based and corpus-based methodologies, Italian turns out to be an exocentric language, while Polish leans toward flatter textualizations from the point of view of semantic information distribution in the utterance.
