The issue of life-saving is becoming a more and more important area of research in security studies. Contemporary threats, mass accidents and catastrophes require an efficient and effective operation of various rescue services. However, after reaching a high level of the rescue system operation, the percentage of those saved remains at a constant level. A further increase in the effectiveness of rescue can be achieved through the development of self-rescue and the development of knowledge about the principles and techniques of providing first aid in society. One of the most important elements of the rescue system is universal access to defibrillators in public places. The aim of this article is to present the issues of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the program to popularize automatic defibrillators, which has a significant impact on the safety of citizens. The results of contributions and pilot surveys of public opinion concerning knowledge about the AED access program have been presented.

Problematyka ratownictwa staje się coraz ważniejszym obszarem badań w naukach o bezpieczeństwie. Współczesne zagrożenia, wypadki masowe i katastrofy wymagają sprawnego i skutecznego działania rozmaitych służb ratowniczych. Jednak po osiągnięciu wysokiego poziomu funkcjonowania systemu ratownictwa odsetek uratowanych pozostaje niezmieniony. Dalszy wzrost skuteczności ratownictwa można uzyskać poprzez rozwój samoratownictwa oraz rozwój wiedzy na temat zasad i technik udzielania pierwszej pomocy w społeczeństwie. Jednym z najważniejszych elementów systemu ratownictwa jest powszechny dostęp do defibrylatorów w miejscach publicznych. Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie problematyki resuscytacji krążeniowo-oddechowej (RKO) i programu upowszechniania automatycznych defibrylatorów, który może w istotny sposób wpłynąć na bezpieczeństwo obywateli. Przedstawiono wyniki przyczynkarskich i pilotażowych badań opinii społecznej w zakresie wiedzy o programie powszechnego dostępu do urządzeń AED.
