The paper concerns TikTok, which is one of the most popular global communication platforms. The use of this medium, its specificity and influence on the users raise interest among scholars of different disciplines. The aim of the following study is to provide a review of existing research on TikTok. Based on journal articles collected from Polish and international databases, the paper discusses research carried out in such fields as science, education, culture and religion, politics, as well as psychology and medicine. The review of the studies shows a diversity of this medium, its potential in communication, education, information dissemination, identity construction, or community building. Studies confirm its potential in influencing social behaviours in different areas of life, such as health or politics. As for the use and form of messages, the studies point to a high degree of mimesis, imitation and replication of the content created and disseminated on the platform.

Artykuł dotyczy aplikacji TikTok, czyli obecnie jednej z najbardziej popularnych platform komunikacyjnych na świecie. Wykorzystanie tego medium, jego specyfika oraz wpływ na użytkowników budzą coraz większe zainteresowanie badaczy z różnych dziedzin nauki. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest opis stanu dotychczasowych badań dotyczących wspomnianej platformy. Na podstawie przeglądu artykułów naukowych zebranych z polskich oraz zagranicznych baz danych artykuł omawia badania w obszarach takich jak m.in. nauka, edukacja, kultura i religia, polityka oraz psychologia i medycyna. Przegląd badań pokazuje różnorodność aplikacji, jej potencjał w zakresie komunikacji, edukacji, przekazywania informacji, budowy wizerunku czy tworzenia społeczności. Badania potwierdzają również możliwości jej wykorzystania w zakresie oddziaływania na zachowania społeczne w różnorodnych obszarach życia, np. w sferze zdrowia i polityki. W odniesieniu do użycia i formy komunikatów, badania wskazują na wysoki stopień mimetyczności, imitacji i replikacji tworzonych i przekazywanych treści.
