TRANSFORMACJA GRECKIEJ MITOLOGII W BAŚNIOWYM OBRAZIE BABY JAGI Streszczenie W artykule zostało wykorzystane mitologiczne podejście umożliwiające ujawnienie nowych źródeł pochodzenia bajkowej postaci Baby Jagi. Podstawą mitologicznej analizy posłużyła teoria wybitnego folklorysty rosyjskiego Władimira Proppa dotycząca pochodzenia i kształtowania się postaci i motywów w bajce magicznej. Na podstawie tekstów rosyjskiej bajki magiczne autorka udowadnia, że najbardziej wyrazista i wszechstronna postać ro-syjskiego folkloru i motywy z nią związane mają swoje korzenie w micie. Baba Jaga jest utożsamiana z postaciami mitologii greckiej zgodnie z funkcjami, rolą jaką odgrywa w ro-syjskiej bajce magicznej oraz charakterystycznymi atrybutami. Jej postać jest równoznaczna z odważnym i pomocnym ludziom Prometeuszem, mrocznym Charonem z zaświatów oraz piękną i wojowniczą Afrodytą. Bajkowa Baba Jaga w szczególny sposób połączyła w sobie cechy przeciwległych postaci z mitologii greckiej. Przedstawiona w artykule interpretacja Baby Jagi potwierdza, że korzenie tej bajkowej postaci sięgają bardzo odległych czasów. Wykorzystane w artykule mitologiczne podejście do analizy Baby Jagi i jej stałych atrybu-tów sprzyja głębszemu zrozumieniu jej istoty oraz maksymalnie uzupełnia i wzbogaca ten wyrazisty i wieloznaczny obraz folkloru rosyjskiego. TRANSFORMATION OF GREEK MYTHOLOGY IN A FAIRYTALE PICTURE OF BABA JAGA Summary The article applies mythological approach that enables to reveal new sources of Baba Yaga’s origin. A mythological analysis was based on the Russian folklorist Vladimir Propp’s theory on the origins and the development of characters and motifs in a “magic tale”. The author of the article on the basis of Russian texts of “magic tale” proves that Baba Yaga, the most distinctive and versatile fi gure in Russian folklore, together with attached to that fi gure motifs have its roots in a myth. Baba Yaga is identifi ed with the characters from Greek mythology in accordance with the role she plays in the Russian “magic tale” with all the attributes characteristic for that genre. The witch is equivalent to courageous and helpful Prometheus, to tenebrous Charon from the beyond and beautiful and belligerent Aphrodite. In fairy tales Baba Yaga combined in herself the features of the opposing characters from Greek mythology. The interpretation of Baba Yaga presented in the article confi rms the fact that fairy-tale fi gure has its roots in distant times. A mythological approach applied to the analysis of Baba Yaga’s character and her fi xed attributes creates favourable conditions for a far better understanding of her personality and enriches as much as possible that distinctive and ambiguous image of the Russian folklore.
