The article is an attempt to analyze the policy of French President François Hollande to sub-Saharan Africa. The author analyze the latest French literature in this field and characterize the African policy of the current French socialist head of state. France, the colonial power, seized large areas in Africa, but in this article, research scope is limited only Africa south of the Sahara. Relations between France and this part of the continent has a long history and a special character. For a long time the countries of the region were not be treated as serious objects of foreign policy of France and the Ministry of Cooperation dealt with these countries. Since the presidential elections, in May 2012, two or three periods in the evolution of African policy of France can be observed. The first period („Hollande 1”) is characterized by an attempt to normalize the relations, the second („Hollande 2”) has been dominated by military interventions in Mali and the Central African Republic, and the third („Hollande 3”) is characterized by the strengthening of economic diplomacy. Assessing three years of President Hollande’s African policy, it seems that it does not differ from the policies pursued by his predecessors. If there is any difference, it only applies to the style. Paris African policy does not change significantly as a result of alternation of right-wing and left wing governments in France. Since the end of 2012, we notice a distinct change in the basis of President Hollande to sub-Saharan Africa. The specific activity of the president is an expression of France’s return to his former bastion. Sub-Saharan Africa is important for France because, apart from the colossal profit material, also ensures its strong position in the international political arena.

Artykuł jest próbą analizy polityki afrykańskiej francuskiego prezydenta Françoisa Hollande’a. Francja, jako mocarstwo kolonialne, zajęła duże tereny w Afryce, jednak w zakresie podjętego tematu badawczego autor ogranicza się do Afryki Subsaharyjskiej. Relacje Francji z tą częścią kontynentu mają długą historię oraz szczególny charakter. Przez wiele lat kraje tego regionu nie były traktowane jako poważne obiekty polityki zagranicznej Francji. Od momentu wyborów prezydenckich, w maju 2012 roku, można wyróżnić kilka etapów w ewolucji afrykańskiej polityki Francji. Pierwszy okres jest próbą normalizacji relacji, drugi został zdominowany przez interwencje wojskowe w Mali i Republice Środkowoafrykańskiej, zaś trzeci charakteryzuje się wzmocnieniem dyplomacji gospodarczej. Od końca 2012 roku notujemy wyraźną zmianę podstawy prezydenta Hollande’a wobec Afryki Subsaharyjskiej. Szczególna aktywność prezydenta jest wyrazem powrotu Francji do dawnego bastionu. Afryka Subsaharyjska jest istotna dla Francji, ponieważ poza kolosalnym zyskiem materialnym, gwarantuje także jej silną pozycję na międzynarodowej arenie politycznej.
