The article focuses on the relation between literature and visual arts in the plot, discourse and graphic design of Günter Grass’s “Peeling the Onion”. The main point of the essay is the assumption that the narrator suggests an elementary affinity between different forms of expression when he reflects on the term “imagination”. His statement is supported by the occurence of intermediality which is recognizable in the book.

Sztuka i imaginacja w książce Güntera Grassa „Przy obieraniu cebuli” Artykuł zajmuje się relacjami pomiędzy literaturą a sztuką piękną prezentowanymi w autobiograficznym dziele Güntera Grassa „Przy obieraniu cebuli” w aspektach fabuły, stylu oraz graficznego projektu książki. Główną tezę eseju stanowi twierdzenie, że narrator postuluje podstawowe pokrewieństwo między dyscyplinami artystycznymi, snując refleksje nad pojęciem imaginacji. Ten związek potwierdza sposób, w jaki historia została opowiedziana i zilustrowana, ponieważ intermedialność należy do najwybitniejszych cech tej prezentacji.
