Anthon Möller, Gdansk’s Mannerist painter of the first half of XVIII century, caught Grass’s interest in the exceptional way. While sketching the main characteristics of Möller’s works in his novel “The Flounder”, he did not decide to give its detailed interpretation. The exception is made by introducing Möller’s picture “The Tribute Money” into the plot of “The Flounder”. The picture was only a pretext to feature the issues that interested the writer. The proof illustrating this thesis is the fact, that Christ, who was the central figure in the picture “The Tribute Money”, was replaced by the fictitious heroine of the novel – Agnieszka Kurbiela, the lover and the muse of Möller. She evokes and unites all the central plots connected with the presentation of the figure of Möller and his paintings. The analysis below shows how Grass took the advantage of the literary interpretation of this picture to present the most important plots of the novel.

Opis i interpretacja obrazu Antona Möllera „Grosz czynszowy” w powieści Güntera Grassa „Turbot” Anthon Möller, gdański malarz manierysta pierwszej połowy XVII wieku, interesował Grassa w sposób szczególny. Szkicując w powieści „Turbot” główne cechy twórczości Möllera, pisarz nie podjął się jednak jej szczegółowej interpretacji. Wyjątek stanowi wprowadzenie do fabuły „Turbota” obrazu Möllera „Grosz czynszowy”. Obraz ten jest jedynie pretekstem do wyeksponowania zajmującej pisarza problematyki. Dowodem obrazującym tę tezę jest fakt, że miejsce Chrystusa, który na obrazie „Grosz czynszowy” był postacią centralną, zajmuje fikcyjna bohaterka powieści – gospodyni domowa Agnieszka Kurbiela, kochanka i muza Möllera. To ona ewokuje i spaja ze sobą centralne wątki związane z przedstawieniem postaci malarza Möllera i jego malarstwa. Poniższa analiza pokazuje, w jaki sposób literacka interpretacja tego obrazu wykorzystana zostaje przez Grassa do pokazania ważniejszych wątków tej powieści.
