In the context of globalization, relations between cultures become more and more frequent and take various shapes: exchanges, confluences, influences, frictions and even conflicts. Literature remains the emblematic place where some questions focusing on the intercultural aspect are posed and often find an answer. This paper aims at studying two Cameroonian literary texts − Hilaire Mbakop’s The Destructed Village and Gabriel Kuitche Fonkou’s Tribalistic Country −, parting from the process of intercultural perception that consists in the deconstruction of images resp. collective representations of another culture. Furthermore, it is a question of showing that ethnocentrism is the illustration of a stereotyped discourse that leads to the exclusion of the Other and this brings out the shortcomings of the intercultural dialogue and of the integration in a multicultural context. Finally, one comes to the conclusion that self-images always constitute a relation of interdependence with hetero-images. Their analysis permits bringing to light modalities according to which a culture sees itself, thinks itself and portrays the Other.

Między roszczeniem władzy a ekskluzją. Obraz własny i Obcego w kontekście kameruńskim. Artykuł zawiera interpretację dwóch kameruńskich tekstów literackich Hilaire Mbakop’a The Destructed Village [Zniszczona wieś] i Gabriela Kuitche Fonkou’ Tribalistic Country [Plemienna kraina]. Na skutek procesów globalizacyjnych relacje pomiędzy kulturami stają się coraz częstsze i przyjmują różnorodne formy: wymiany, przenikania, wpływu, tarcia a nawet konfliktu. Literaturze przypisuje się istotną rolę w przedstawianiu problematyki związanej z aspektami interkulturowymi. Poniższa analiza zawiera dekonstrukcję zbiorowych wyobrażeń o obcej kulturze. Ponadto etnocentryzm zostaje ukazany jako ilustracja stereotypowego dyskursu, prowadzącego do ekskluzji Obcego, jego dyskryminacji w dialogu interkulturowym i integracji w kontekście wielokulturowym. Podsumowując rozważania autor stwierdza, że autostereotyp zawsze wykazuje odrębności względem heterostereoptypu. Analiza tych konstruktów pozwala na ukazanie różnic pomiędzy obrazem własnym danej kultury, ujmowaniem własnej specyfiki i portretem Obcego.
