Unabhängig von der zu beobachtenden Entwicklungslinie in der Stoffwahl und dem Ideengehalt bieten sich Ingeborg Bachmanns kritische Schriften als Manifestationen des Poetischen in der Tradition von Robert Musils Essayismus. Der Offenheit der Form entspricht die Offenheit der Idee, die sich progressiv über den Text hinaus erstreckt. Das Gleichgewicht von Erkenntnis und Gefühl bewahrend hält die Autorin im Sinne Musils und Adornos an der Dichotomie von Phantasie\Dichtung und Wirklichkeit\Wissen fest. Indem sie auf eine Veränderung des Bewusstseins beim Leser zielt, bleibt sie nach wie vor dem utopischen ‚Möglichkeitssinn’ verpflichtet.

Independently from the way her choice of subject and ideological content develops, critical writing of Ingeborg Bachmann constitutes a poetic manifestation in the tradition of Robert Musil’s essayism. Openness of the form is parallel with the openness of the idea, which develops and transcends the text. Maintaining the balance between cognition  and feeling the author remains faithful, in the spirit of Musil and Adorno, to the fantasy/poetry and reality/knowledge dichotomies. Changing the state of the  reader’s consciousness she does not give up on the utopian “sense of possibility”.
