Autorka prezentuje wyniki badań przeprowadzonych w latach osiemdziesiątych. Dotyczyły one zagadnienia wzajemnych relacji między nauczycielami akademickimi a studentami. Podstawową przesłanką artykułu jest przekonanie, że o powodzeniu założonych funkcji kształcenia w szkole wyższej w znacznej mierze decyduje rozumienie i akceptacja tych celów oraz pełne, harmonijne i aktywne współdziałanie studentów i nauczycieli akademickich. Wyniki badań świadczą o licznych ograniczeniach i przeszkodach w kształtowaniu się właściwych, bogatych intelektualnie i społecznie kontaktów studentów i pracowników dydaktycznych uczelni, które stymulują aktywność studentów w procesie dydaktycznym i ich postawy wobec uczelni i studiowania.

The author presents findings of the following researches conducted in the 1980s: panel research into conditions of academic activity of 1st and 4th years students of purposefully selected fields of study from universities, technical universities, agricultural, economic and medical academies (1983-1987);  research on all-Polish representative sample called „Student 1977” and „Student 1987”, research on students of Warsaw „Student 90”, and the research on academic teachers of 1984. All the studies investigated problems of mutual relations between academic teachers and students. The author puts forward a thesis that the success in carrying out intended functions of higher education depends on a large extent on understanding and accepting its goals by students and teachers and on their full and active cooperation in this process. The findings of the cited investigations show several limitations and barriers in shaping of proper intellectual and social contacts between students and teachers, contacts which could stimulate students, activity in the educational process and affect their attitudes towards their schools and studies.
