Autorka prezentuje sposoby zarządzania instytucjami szkolnictwa wyższego występujące w krajach Europy Zachodniej. Najwięcej miejsca poświęca próbie odpowiedzi na pytanie, czy jest możliwe przeniesienie modelu zarządzania ze świata biznesu do szkolnictwa wyższego? Jest to problem bardzo aktualny, obecnie bowiem rządy wielu krajów starają się zachęcić wyższe uczelnie do wprowadzania takiego sposobu zarządzania. Nazywany on jest zamiennie entrepreneurial model lub business model. Artykuł kończy się uwagami na temat zmian zachodzących w polskich wyższych uczelniach oraz oceną możliwości zastosowania w naszych warunkach sposobów doskonalenia jakości szkolnictwa wyższego proponowanych obecnie w Europie Zachodniej.

The Author presents management practices at institutions of higher education of Western Europe. In the most extensive part of the article she attempts to resolve the question of applicability of business management practices to institutions of higher education. This is extremely topical issue, as governments of various countries try to encourage institutions of higher education to apply business like type of management. This type of management is called alternatively “entrepreneurial” or “business” model of management. Remarks concerning current changes at institutions of higher education in Poland end the paper. Also, the relevantness for Poland of the methods of education quality improvement formulated in the Western Europe, is assessed.
