W artykule zaprezentowano sposoby podejścia uczelni do problemu jakości kształcenia oraz dyskusje środowiskowe i kierunki poszukiwania kryteriów oceny tej jakości. Wykorzystano w nim m.in. wyniki badania ankietowanego, którym zostały objęte wszystkie uczelnie podległe Ministerstwu Edukacji Narodowej, akademie medyczne oraz wyższe szkoły niepaństwowe. Zgromadzony materiał wskazuje na rosnące w ostatnim czasie zainteresowanie - pomijając jego przyczyny i charakter - problematyką oceny jakości kształcenia. Szczególną uwagę koncentruje projekt utworzenia na szczeblu krajowym systemu nadzorowania (monitorowania) jakości kształcenia - zasadności, podstaw prawnych, a także celu i sposobów wykorzystania wyników zewnętrznej wobec uczelni oceny jakości kształcenia, jeśliby taki system powstał.

The paper presents various approaches adopted by higher education institutions regarding the question of education quality. Also, it presents the discussion over the issue in academic circles and research directions concerning quality assessment criteria. In addition, the Authoress utilizes the results of the questionnaire survey, covering all higher education institutions supervised by the Ministry of National Education, medical academies and non-state higher education institutions. The collected data indicate growing interest in the question of higher education quality assessment. If such system of external assessment is to be established, special attention should be paid to the project concerning the state level education quality monitoring system. In particular, the rationality, legal basis, targets, and methods of the eventual external assessment system need to be reviewed.
