W artykule dokonano przeglądu problematyki mobilności kadry naukowej, poruszanej w literaturze zachodniej. Pierwsza część opracowania poświęcona jest podstawowym kwestiom terminologicznym, rodzajom mobilności i zakresowi tego pojęcia. W następnych częściach przedstawiono zagadnienia związane z różnymi formami mobilności: znaczenie mobilności międzynarodowej, bariery jej rozwoju i politykę stymulowania, problemy związane z mobilnością pracowników naukowych między sektorami badawczo-rozwojowymi, kwestie uwarunkowań mobilności pionowej - karier w nauce, a wreszcie specyficzne problemy mobilności poziomej i pionowej w sektorze szkolnictwa wyższego.

This paper contains a review of western literature on the mobility of scientific personnel. The first part of the article deals with basic terminological questions, the kinds of mobility, the scope of this concept. In the next parts of the article the author discusses problems connected with various forms of mobility: the importance of International mobility, barriers to its development and the policy of stimulating it, questions connected with the mobility of scientific workers between research and development sectors, determinants of vertical mobility - careers in science and, finally, specific problems of horizontal and vertical mobility in higher education.
