Autor - dziekan Wydziału Polonistyki Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego w latach 1990-1996 - przedstawia uwarunkowania, które zdecydowały o wprowadzeniu na tym wydziale daleko idących zmian programowych, nowych planów studiów dziennych oraz nowych zasad zaliczania roku i kolejnych faz studiowania. Wskazuje również główne założenia leżące u podstaw studiów polonistycznych w nowym kształcie.

The author - Dean of the Faculty of Polish Studies at University of Warsaw in 1990- 1996 - describes the circumstances that made it necessary to introduce in that faculty such far-reaching programme changes, new plans of full-time studies and new principles of giving credit for the year and successive phases of the studies. He also describes the main assumptions underpinning Polish studies in their new form.
