The main goal of this study was the analysis of approaching and avoidance system, according to C.S. Carver model, concerning feelings connected with success and failure. Both success and failure were treated as an effective approaching and effective avoidance or ineffective approaching and ineffective avoidance. The research group consisted of people who are doing the sport pools (STS) and for whom such experience as success and failure is close. Applying the Self – Confrontation Method, invented by Hubert J.M. Hermans, allowed to receive idiographic material about those experiences and allowed to analyze the valuation system and various kind of affective components connected with approaching or avoidance system. The analysis of success valuations (both approaching or avoidance situation) allowed to find that success is an opportunity to strive for self – enhancement, to raise self – esteem and it gives satisfaction from doing well. Nevertheless, there are differences in experienced feelings. A greater diversity is observed according to approaching system, where both success and failure are different from avoidance system. Moreover, both systems differ from each other in experience negative feelings during success situation. That shows, how ambiguous success situation is.
