Emphasizing the meaning of spiritual gifts is a specific feature of Catholic Charismatic Renewal. In this paper – based on the fieldwork in a community in Przeworsk (Rzeszowszczyzna, Poland) – the author shows how the spiritual gift and its experience are described by believers. Particular attention is given to emic category of “opening oneself” to a spiritual gift, which is connected with the specific conception of human. The Martin Holbraad’s approach of ontological turn is used to analyze these concepts. It enables to revise assumptions of some anthropologists working on charismatic communities. The author shows what are consequences of this approach for anthropological studies of conversion, theory of mind and learning.
