In the paper, the authors consider usefulness of particular methods of developing explanations in social sciences in studying the relations of power in an organization under transformation. The analysis involves as follows: a cause and effect analysis, rational choice theory, and an interpretative approach. For the purpose of introducing the readers to the category of problems the explanation of which is to be developed through the application of a research method, a general model of the influence of power relations on making strategic decisions has been presented in the paper as well.

W tekście autorzy zastanawiają się nad użytecznością poszczególnych sposobów tworzenia wyjaśnień w naukach społecznych do badania relacji władzy w organizacji znajdującej się w transformacji. Analizie zostają poddane: analiza przyczynowo - skutkowa, teoria racjonalnego wyboru oraz podejście interpretatywne. W celu przybliżenia czytelnikowi kategorii problemów, których wyjaśnienie ma być stworzone w wyniku zastosowania metody badawczej, przedstawiono również ogólny model wpływu relacji władzy na podejmowanie decyzji strategicznych.
