Trade and the neoclassical growth model - an attempt at verifying the Ben-David-Loewy model

In this paper we try to verify one of the recently developed models that analyzes the impact of openness to trade on a long-run growth in a multicountry framework. It was chosen due to the fact that it preserves the conditional convergence and growth predictions of the models by Solow, Cass and Koopmans. The model was verified using a 'tailor-made' algorithm, different from the one used by Ben-David and Loewy. Instead of using analytical formulas it was decided to use numerical methods for solving dependent equations. Thanks to this change it was possible to obtain the results for unlimited number of countries and then compare the outcomes with the theory behind the Ben-David-Loewy model.

W pracy podjęto próbę weryfikacji jednego z niedawno powstałych modeli gospodarki otwartej, który próbuje opisać utrzymanie większej od dwóch liczby obszarów handlowych, zachowując przy tym większość predykcji dla wzrostu i warunkowej konwergencji wyprowadzonych w oryginalnym modelu Solowa oraz jego późniejszych modyfikacjach zaproponowanych m.in. przez Cassa i Koopmansa. Zaprezentowane wyniki uzyskano dzięki użyciu napisanego dla tego celu programu, którego algorytm zmieniono w stosunku do wykorzystanego przez autorów modelu. Rezygnacja z wykorzystania wzorów analitycznych wyprowadzonych w modelu i skupienie się na równaniach ogólnych oraz metodach numerycznych rozwiązywania układów równań zależnych umożliwiło przeprowadzenie symulacji dla teoretycznie dowolnej liczby państw i tym samym zweryfikowanie wyników uzyskanych przez Ben-Davida i Loewy'ego.
