The article discusses the role of technology companies in establishing and managing partner networks. Based on the case study of a Japanese mobile phone operator NTT DoCoMo, the author analyzes the ways of using semi-open technological standards and governance forms in order to stimulate competition among partner firms and motivate them to innovate. It presents challenges faced by companies trying to keep their partners both loyal and innovative at the same time.

Artykuł omawia rolę firm technologicznych w budowie i zarządzaniu sieciami partnerskimi. W oparciu o studium przypadku japońskiego operatora telefonii komórkowej NTT DoCoMo, analizuje sposoby wykorzystywania półotwartych standardów technologicznych i władzy międzyorganizacyjnej dla stymulowania konkurencji między firmami partnerskimi i jednoczesnego motywowania ich do tworzenia innowacji. Przedstawia wyzwania stojące przed firmami, które chcą utrzymać partnerów zarówno lojalnych, jak i innowacyjnych.
