The competitive advantage of family businesses over their non-family counterparts

EN
It seems that in the contemporary, unstable, competitive environment family businesses, which are characterized by reluctance to use gearing and to open the property structure to investors, or employing competent managers from outside the family, are doomed to be marginalized. Meanwhile, family companies are developing. As it has been confirmed by empirical research carried out in many countries, differing in the level of economic development and of different cultural spheres, the results they receive are not worse, and in most cases the results are better than the ones achieved by their non-family counterparts. The success source for family companies is the family capital, understood as a specific form of social capital or 'familism' - a cognate category, referring to the school of resources. The author focuses on the approach represented by the school of social capital, due to its greater practical and application values.
