The article discusses both private and professional life of prof. Olgierd Cecil Zienkiewicz who spent most of his life in England. He was a distinguished engineer, specialising in designing and building huge architectural constructions. What brought him international recognition, however, was his creation of Finite Elements Method, which found its practical use. The method enables the simulation of a design issue in the computer memory without the necessity to build an actual prototype, which greatly facilitates the design process.
