Artykuł ten stanowi ogólny szkic poświęcony powieści Jana Dobraczyńskiego Magdalena wydanej w 1988 r. Zajmuję się w nim kreacją tytułowej bohaterki Marii Magdaleny w odniesieniu do tradycji Kościoła zachodniego i wschodniego, legend i apokryfów oraz popularnego wyobrażenia postaci. Sytuuję powieść w ramach narracji apokryficznych między para–apokryfem a renarracją. Kreślę portret powieściowej Magdaleny, będącej syntezą kilku postaci biblijnych, w relacjach z Jezusem i innymi bohaterami Nowego Testamentu. Ponadto zwracam uwagę na sposób prowadzenia fabuły, odnosząc wydarzenia do przekazu Ewangelii i śledząc koncepcję autora. Odwołuję się przy tym do recenzji i wybranych pozycji historycznoliterackich oraz religioznawczych poświęconych św. Marii Magdalenie.

This article provides a general outlook in which attention has been devoted to the novel Magdalena written by Jan Dobraczyński and published in 1988. In my work I analyse the creation of eponymous character – Mary Magdalene with reference to the tradition of Western and Eastern Church, legends, apocrypha, as well as popular depictions of the heroine. I embed the novel within the frameworks of apocryphal narrations between para-apocryph and renarration. I depict a portrait of a novel’s Magdalene, which is a synthesis of numeral biblical characters, in relations with Jesus and other heroes of the New Testament. Furthermore, I pay attention to methods of leading the storyline by pertaining events to the Gospel’s tradition and following author’s conception. I also invoke reviews and selected literary-historical positions as well as religious studies devoted to the character of St. Mary Magdalene.
